  • Qwen VLo Image Generation AI Model Released, Offers Image Generation and Editing for Free

Alibaba’s Qwen team released a new image generation artificial intelligence (AI) model last week. Dubbed Qwen VLo, it is a successor to the Qwen 2.5 vision language model and comes with several upgrades compared to the older models. The latest AI image model supports both text-to-image and image-to-image generation. It also supports text input in multiple languages, including English and Chinese. Apart from image generation, the AI model is also capable of making inline edits to generated images as well as input images.

Qwen VLo Accepts Prompts in Multiple Languages

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the official handle of the Qwen team announced the release of the new model. The model’s technical name is Qwen3-235B-A22B, and it is available on the company’s chat interface for free here. Users can also use the model without logging in.

Gadgets 360 staff members tested out the AI model and found its image generation capability to be on par with Google’s Imagen 2. The instruction following and image output quality is slightly lower than Imagen-3 and OpenAI’s GPT-4o-powered image generation feature. However, its generation time is faster than both of them, and it has a higher rate limit than them.

  • Days After Stampede, Bengaluru Stadium’s Power Cut For Violating Safety Norms

The power supply to M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was cut Monday for failing to comply with safety norms, NDTV has learnt. The development comes days after 11 people died in a crowd crush outside the stadium, as tens of thousands turned up to cheer Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title win in the Indian Premier League.

According to a letter dated June 4 and received by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) on June 10, the Director General of Police (Fire & Emergency Services) cited multiple communications to the Karnataka Cricket Association (KSCA) that clearly instructed them to implement necessary fire safety measures at the stadium.

The Karnataka cricket body had sought a week’s time to resolve the issue.

The directive to cut the power supply came after the state cricket body failed to comply with fire safety norms despite being issued multiple advisories.

  • First Batch Of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 Flagged Off By Pabitra Margherita

Known for its religious value, cultural significance, physical beauty and exciting natural environment, Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is undertaken by several people every year. It holds religious importance for Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

The first batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 started their journey on Friday, with Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita attending a formal flag-off ceremony.

“Honoured to flag off the first batch of KMY 2025 – a sacred journey that is a testament to India’s living civilizational connections across the borders. Wished all yatris a safe and fulfilling journey. Gratitude to MEA, state governments, ITBP and all agencies for seamless coordination to realise KMY 2025 on a short timeline,” Minister Pabitra Margherita,” said in a post on X.

The Minister felicitated the Yatris and wished them a safe and fulfilling Yatra.

He also appreciated the Chinese side for its cooperation for the resumption of the Yatra.

Known for its religious value, cultural significance, physical beauty and exciting natural environment, Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is undertaken by several people every year. It holds religious importance for Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

Government of India organises the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra every year between June and September, through the two official routes of Lipulekh Pass (since 1981) in Uttarakhand and Nathu La Pass (since 2015) in Sikkim.

The Yatra had not taken place since 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent non-renewal of Yatra arrangements by the Chinese Side.

Indian side had taken up the issue of resumption of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra with the Chinese side in its diplomatic engagements, including in the meetings of External Affairs Minister with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of G-20 Summit on 18 November 2024 in Rio de Janeiro and on the sidelines of G-20 Foreign Ministers meeting on February 20-21, 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives of India and China on the Boundary Question held on 18 December 2024 in Beijing, and in the meeting of Foreign Secretary with Vice Foreign Minister of China on 27 January 2025, in Beijing.

The two sides decided, in these meetings, to resume the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025.

“Lake Manasarovar lies at 4,590 metres (15,060 feet) above sea level and is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. As per Hindu theology, drinking water from Lake Manasarovar cleanses all the sins of the past hundred lives! However, whether it is the pristine beauty of the region or its religious significance or the thrilling nature of the trek through snow covered hilly terrains, the Yatra is a much sought-after out of the world experience,” according to an information guide put up by the Ministry of External Affairs on its website.

An Indian citizen, holding a valid Indian passport and aged between 18 and 70 years as on January 1, of the Yatra year, is eligible to apply for the Yatra.

Yatris are selected in the draw through a fair, computer-generated, random, gender-balanced selection process.

Subsequently, the selected Yatris are informed of their selection through SMS and email messages.

This year, 5,561 applicants had successfully registered online, which included 4,024 male applicants and 1,537 female applicants, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs dated May 21.

A total of 750 selected Yatris will travel in 5 batches of 50 Yatris each via the Lipulekh route, and 10 batches of 50 Yatris each via the Nathu La route. Both routes are now fully motorable and involve very little trekking, MEA had said in the statement in May.

  • Congress Office, Ex-Minister’s Property Worth Rs 6 Crore Seized In Chhattisgarh

The Enforcement Directorate attached properties worth over Rs 6 crore, including assets belonging to former state excise minister Kawasi Lakhma and his son as well as the Congress Bhawan.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached properties worth over Rs 6 crore, including assets belonging to former state excise minister Kawasi Lakhma and his son as well as the Congress Bhawan in Sukma. The development comes amid an ongoing probe into the Chhattisgarh liquor scam.

According to the probe agency, properties worth Rs 5.5 crore linked to the former minister and his son Harish Lakhma have been seized, while assets worth Rs 65 lakh associated with the Congress office in Sukma have also been attached. The total value of the attached properties stands at Rs 6.15 crore.

Kawasi Lakhma and his son are currently in jail in connection with the alleged Rs 2,161 crore liquor scam, which is under investigation by the central agency. The scam reportedly took place between 2019 and 2022, during the tenure of the Congress-led government under then Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Lakhma served as the state’s excise minister during that period.

Congress’s media in-charge Sushil Anand Shukla alleged political vendetta. “The ED is working under pressure from the PM Modi government. This is a politically motivated conspiracy. Congress will present an account of every rupee spent on its party offices,” he said, adding that Congress Bhawans have been built with the support of workers since pre-independence. “Does ED have the courage to probe BJP’s Rs 150 crore office?” he asked.

BJP spokesperson Kedar Gupta welcomed the ED’s action, claiming it exposed the deep-rooted corruption under the previous Congress regime. “This is the first time in India’s history that the office of a political party has been attached for being built on the foundation of corruption,” he said.

The liquor scam involves alleged illegal commissions, cartelisation, and irregularities in liquor sales and distribution in Chhattisgarh. The scam allegedly operated between 2019 and 2022, with proceeds routed through various shell companies and middlemen. ED arrested Kawasi Lakhma on January 15 after multiple rounds of interrogation. Prior to his arrest, the agency had raided his premises on December 28 last year and questioned him on January 3 and 9.

  • NDTV Inside Flight Simulator: What May Have Happened In Dreamliner’s Final Moments

NDTV spoke to a commercial airline pilot inside the cockpit of a flight simulator to get an insight into what could have gone wrong with Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner

NDTV spoke to a commercial airline pilot inside the cockpit of a flight simulator to get an insight into what could have gone wrong with Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner just before it crashed in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing 241 on board and 10 on the ground.

Commercial airline pilot Pushkar Shelar, who sat on the co-pilot’s seat inside the passenger aircraft simulator, told NDTV that while the investigation is going on and any speculation would be misleading, there are many possibilities on the cause of the crash, from a serious technical fault to a complete loss of power to bird activity.

“We really cannot say that such and such is the reason why it happened until the investigation is out,” Mr Shelar told NDTV.

The pilot said that usually it is difficult to control an aircraft at very low altitude in the event of a sudden crisis.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

A CCTV camera at Ahmedabad airport showed that the Dreamliner involved in the aviation accident also flew at a low altitude for only 32 seconds before it crashed into a hostel for doctors of a medical college.

“The altitude they reached after they took off was close to 500-600 feet. So at that altitude, if you have complete power loss, then it becomes really difficult to recover from that,” Mr Shelar said. “Every pilot is well trained to do this [recover the aircraft]. But the aircraft was so close to the ground, it must have been difficult for them [pilot and co-pilot] to control.”

The pilot said there is not much room or “time to think” if the aircraft is too close to the ground. “You have to react quickly. That’s how things work.”

He also explained what flaps in an aircraft do. Some aviation experts have suggested incorrect flap settings as one of the possibilities. Such incidents have happened in the West.

“We have flaps before take-off and during landing. Basically what they do is they generate a lot of lift which helps us in getting airborne within a shorter distance. During landing also, we use flaps to slow down the aircraft. It’s a part on the wing that extends downwards,” Mr Shelar said.

He said the position of the flaps are manually set, and it is determined using weather conditions and aircraft weight, among other factors.

He said only the investigation can tell if it was a rare incident of both engines failing.

The Ahmedabad airport CCTV footage showed a very short flight of 32 seconds from the time the landing gears left the runway to the time of impact.

Aviation experts have also said the final moments of the flight showed the aircraft either struggled to generate thrust or lift. The exact cause behind the crash would be known after a few months following a detailed air crash investigation, they said.

  • Gas Gushes From Assam ONGC Well For 2nd Day, Ops To Control Flow Continue

ONGC said that efforts are underway to control the continuous gush of gas from the well.

Efforts to control the uncontrollable flow of gas from a crude well of energy major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Assam’s Sivasagar district for the second day after a blowout.

The blowout was noticed during servicing operations on Thursday at Well No RDS 147A of Rig No SKP 135 of Rudrasagar oil field of ONGC, located in Bhatiapar. A private firm SK Petro Services was operating the well on behalf of the state-run Maharatna company. The sound of gas emissions was heard as far as 304 kilometres away, creating panic among villagers who fled to safety.

The ONGC team immediately activated safety protocols and secured the site.

A day later, the well has not caught fire, but the flow of gas continues. The ONGC is laying out the necessary equipment for bringing the well under control and reinforcement teams and technical specialists are working to ensure safe and swift normalisation of the well operations.

“The required fluids for the subdue operation have been made ready and the next step in the operation is expected to start at daybreak tomorrow. In view of the presence of gas, entry to the location is being restricted to the concerned operational personnel only,” per an ONGC statement.

This ONGC incident reminded people of the worst industrial disaster of the Northeast in 2020, when an OIL well blowout took away the lives of three employees of the PSU major and injured several others. The well no 5 at Baghjan in Tinsukia district spewed gas uncontrollably for 173 days since May 27 and it caught fire on June 9, 2020.

In a multi-agency effort, the damaged gas well at Baghjan in Assam was ‘killed’ and the blaze was fully doused on November 15, followed by abandoning of the well on December 3 in 2020 after completing all steps to control it.

“It means so much to me,” she said. “It’s like a perfect example to never give up and to always keep going, doesn’t matter what.

“I’m still here and living this dream. I have my family with me and amazing team.”

She added: “I’m super, super proud to be here in the semi-final and I hope in a few years you will see my daughter (aged 11) at the same stage here.”

Earlier, US second seed Keys came from a set down to beat Russian fifth seed Diana Shnaider 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
